House passes $484 billion bill to boost small businesses

President Trump has signed off on an additional $484 billion in coronavirus relief efforts, which Congress passed earlier in the week. Here's what's in the legislation:

  • $321 billion in additional funding for a small-business loan program that quickly reached its earlier $349 billion cap. This includes $60 billion to be set aside for small lenders.
  • $60 billion for small-business disaster loans and grants.
To apply for a PPP loan, visit our SBA PPP Page and to apply for an SBA Disaster Loan, visit our SBA Disaster Loan Page, or contact your local banking center for further questions.

PPP Loan Program Funding Now Depleted

Yesterday, April 16, it was announced that funding for the SBA PPP program had been depleted. While not all of our customers were able to get monetary assistance through this program, we are happy to report that we were able to help a significant amount of small businesses obtain this critical funding.

Citizens Bank will still be accepting all applications from small businesses who would like to be considered for these loans, with the caveat that all applications will be held in the queue until the program receives further funding. We highly recommend that individuals reach out to their local lawmakers, state senators and even the White House to ask for more funding to help those businesses who were left out during this process.

Contact your local banking center for further details.

The FDIC yesterday issued two sets of frequently asked questions addressing banker and consumer concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic.

Per the FDIC, the consumer FAQ assures customers that the bank is the safest place for their money and that a branch closure or lobby closure has no bearing on an account’s insured status and addresses other questions about how the FDIC is encouraging banks to handle customer difficulties. An important word about scams. Times like this are prime opportunities of scammers to take advantage of fear and panic to perpetrate financial crimes. It is especially important to keep your guard up, and also to check up on the vulnerable within your community. Beware of activities and solicitations such as suspicious emails and text messages, phone calls, medical related scams, and fraudulent donation sites that may impersonate a company, charity, or government agencies. Fraud takes many forms, so keep in mind it is never a good idea to share personal or sensitive information with an unknown party. Be sure to verify the authenticity of any unsolicited communications you may receive, and if in doubt, take a step back to solicit trusted assistance.
